“The faithless will be fully repaid for their ways, and the good man rewarded for his” (Prov 14:14). It is a cornerstone truth of the Scriptures that all will face a day of accountability for their lives on earth. a day which will result in eternal confinement to either a place of pure joy and delight in the presence of our Creator or a place of unending torment which is the destination of Satan and all other spirit beings which rebelled against sovereignty of God. The faithless who rejected the ways of God in favor of their own self-indulgent and selfish ways May or may not experience torment and misery during their earthly lives. However, their eternal fate will be full repayment for having failed to submit their lives to the lordship of the only name under heaven by which one might be saved….that of Jesus the Christ, Son of the living God. In contrast, those who remain faithful to the decrees and commandments of a holy God will reap the fruit of their righteous lives. For many if not most, the latter will enjoy bountiful rewards during their lives on earth. However, there will be some as described in Hebrews 11:35-37 who experience great tribulation during their lives on earth and even suffer martyrdom. Their eternal reward is waiting for them nonetheless. While faithfulness does not guarantee comfort or deliverance from rejection and persecution on earth, it does assure us of God’s grace to carry one through trials and even times of grievous suffering. With this in mind, one can readily appreciate why the scriptures explain that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.
