August 14, 2015 (Proverbs 12:4)

“An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones” (Prov 12:4). The absolute truth of this parable has been borne out over the years in all societies around the world. No more important relationship in life exists than that entered into by marriage except for that relationship between any given person and the Lord. Having a good spouse, be it husband or wife, determines in great part a person’s happiness, joy and contentment as well as overall success in the various endeavors of life. In contrast, having a spouse where there is a lack of compatibility does more than virtually anything else to cause misery and sorrows of many kinds. It is for good reason that scripture warns about being unequally yoked (2 Corinthians 6:14). A person committed to Christ is admonished to never marry an unbeliever (see 1 Corinthians 7:39). When this advice is ignored, there is grave risk in general of subsequently experiencing a lifetime of regret. Many decisions to marry are based upon a person’s external appearance or on factors other than one’s character and commitment to holy living in the eyes of God. Thus it is that well over half of marriages end up in separation if not divorce, often with tragic lifelong consequences.  There is a great deal of truth to the old saying that behind every good man is a good wife. Frequently this is a reality as is the case for the author of this website who is blessed with an excellent wife, praise the Lord.
