The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD (Prov 21:31).

While we prepare for battle, whatever the enemy, it is critical to remember our warfare is not with what our natural senses suggest. As Paul stresses, our battle is with spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realms (Eph 6:12).  Behind the scenes is the enemy of our souls Satan, and so it is that weapons of the world will never suffice to secure victory. Both OT and NT teachings emphasize that the battle belongs to the LORD. The authority of Jesus’ name, His shed blood, the power of Holy Spirit, commitment to truth, righteous living, obedient faith, prayer, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God are weapons which help us prevail over issues that reflect Satan’s influence which has taken the world captive. The only ultimate safety is of the LORD, Coming to recognize this often requires breaking of self-confidence by defeat after defeat, and failure after failure, before we reach the point of coming into agreement with words written by a prophet: “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the LORD of hosts” (Zechariah 4:6). When dependence on God is absent, victories are at best partial and temporary….and most importantly, God is not receiving the glory.
