The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is His delight. The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but He loves him who follows righteousness (Prov 15:8,9).
The Hebrew translated as “abomination” literally means something disgusting. It is why we are told a gift at the altar is not acceptable to God if we do not reconcile with someone who has a grievance against us (Mt 4:23,24). It is why the apostle Paul warns that taking the Lord’s supper in an unworthy manner like failing to repent of recognized sin drinks judgment upon oneself and explains why some are sick and even why some have died (1 Cor 11:27-30). Sadly there is serious lack of reverence and holy fear regarding the Presence of a holy, just and righteous God today in our churches as well as disregard if not disdain for His divinely inspired revelations for us as found in Scripture. And it is an abomination to the LORD when the teachings of Jesus Christ are not received humbly and practiced faithfully by those who will confess His name as Lord and Savior.
