“If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small” (Proverbs 24:10). Times of trouble and great distress will come upon all of us at some time in life. When such times come our way, we will consistently find ourselves on a path to victory instead of fainting only when we faithfully trust in the Lord and call upon Him as our refuge and strength. If we will but remember that our strength is indeed small, and that in our weakness His strength is more than sufficient for any trial, then a spirit of fear coming from darkness will not have an open door for entrance. There is hardly a more frequent encouragement in all of scripture than “Fear not!” And yet how often we fail to be mindful that the Lord is our source of strength according to His promise to never leave or forsake us. So it is James exhorts us to count it all joy when we fall into various trials (1:2). Without frequent testing of our faith, we are prone to have little patience in the day of adversity.
