December 11, 2016 (Proverbs 18:10)

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Prov 18:10). The name of the LORD represents His person, character, and authority over all that created by His sovereign will.  There is no greater deception promoted by the enemy of our souls than used in the downfall of Adam in Eden by questioning what God says, yet such is one to which mankind continues to be prone. But no  genuine source of refuge and security exists other than that found in the only source of salvation: “I am the LORD; and apart from Me there is no savior” (Isa 43:11). Yet the LORD will not be savior of any who refuse to heed the commandments of God that reveal His will for our lives. “Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord” shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven” (Mt 7:21). Just as the serpent questioned God in deceiving Eve, so Satan questions the Word of God today. Yet Jesus tells He did not come to destroy but to fulfill the law (Mt 5:17): “For truly I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled” (5:18). The Son of God in His preincarnate state who gave the law and commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai is the same LORD who came in the flesh as Jesus of Nazareth, and He tells us, “I am the LORD, and I do not change” (Malachi 3:6).
