Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Exalt her, and she will promote you: she will bring you honor when you embrace her (Proverbs 4:5,8).
We are exhorted repeatedly in the OT and NT to get wisdom (know God’s ways) and understanding (how to apply wisdom in our life). Many are deceived about salvation (or lukewarm in the faith) and believe wisdom and understanding can be obtained simply by attending church on Sunday, listening to a half hour message and perhaps adding a few minutes of bible reading daily for good measure. But God says to exalt His words, not forgetting or turning from them during the course of one’s day. How prone we are to allow our thoughts to wander to our own ways instead of our taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor 10:5).
